Chronic diseases—such as diabetes, heart
disease, high blood pressure, and stroke—are a
significant cause of death and disability in the
United States. It is well established that both
environmental factors (diet, physical activity,
tobacco use, etc) and genetic factors (family
history) contribute to these often devastating
conditions. Despite this, the majority of widely
used risk assessment tools do not take family
history into account, focusing only on personal
history and environmental risks.
Understanding your risk for chronic disease is
the first step in effectively managing it. At Helix
Health we begin with a detailed three to four
generation family history and incorporate this
information into our comprehensive risk assessment.
Together with your primary care physician, we will
work to develop a prevention and early detection
plan targeted to your specific needs.
Personal and family histories change over time
and research on genetics and chronic disease risk is
rapidly evolving. Through our commitment to
continuity of care via quarterly patient contact and
medical literature reviews, Helix Health patients
are kept up to date on relevant new advances.
